The new MoU was announced during Prime Minister Jonas Gahr St\u00f8re’s visit to Canada this weekend. Among others, St\u00f8re met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and following the visit the two leaders issued a joint statement in which the MoU was highlighted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the statement, the prime ministers emphasized that research is essential to understanding the unique nature of the Arctic, a prerequisite for ensuring security and stability in the region. <\/p>\n

The agreement between the Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) and Polar Knowledge Canada (POLAR)<\/a> aims to strengthen collaboration in both the Arctic and the Antarctic. It will also provide a platform for Canada and Norway to further enhance their international leadership within the framework of the Fifth International Polar Year in 2032\u201333.<\/div>\n

“Sharing the same values”<\/h2>\n

\u201cBy signing this document, we aim at deepening our understanding of the polar regions through a closer collaboration and a strengthened relationship between our two institutions, NPI and POLAR. This will reinforce our Norwegian-Canadian bilateral Arctic and Antarctic research partnership,\u201d says Camilla Brekke, Director of the Norwegian Polar Institute.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAs we work toward the Fifth International Polar Year, this partnership underscores Canada and Norway\u2019s shared commitment to advancing polar science and clean energy solutions. Norway is a respected partner in this area, sharing many of Canada\u2019s values, cold-climate expertise and unique Northern challenges.
