Norvegia lies some few meters above sea level, adjacent to the coast.<\/p>\n<h2>Research at the station<\/h2>\n<p>Norvegia (and previous bases at the Nyr\u00f8ysa site) has served as the home base for Norway\u2019s CEMP activities since the mid 1990s.<br \/>\n<section class=\"av_textblock_section\"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div role='complementary' class='avia_textblock NP-factsheet-enfold alwaysToggle '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p class='title'>CEMP<\/p><div class='hsep'><\/div><div class='NP-factsheet-content'><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccamlr.org\/en\/science\/ccamlr-ecosystem-monitoring-program-cemp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-14515 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/npolar.no\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/ccamlr-logo.jpg\" alt=\"logo\" width=\"199\" height=\"64\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>CCAMLR Ecosystem Monitoring Program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since the late 1990s, NPI has conducted monitoring of krill-predators on Bouvet\u00f8ya to tell us about ecosystem form and function. This programme is a national obligation in service of CCAMLR (The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources).<\/p>\n<p>The island is in a region of the Southern Ocean which received very little fishing effort, making it an ideal location to characterise predator performance in the absence of fishing.&nbsp; Research expeditions have recently come into a three-year cycle of field effort. The station is equipped with cameras and meteorological sensors which continually transmit data via satellite. It is self-sufficient as regards electricity, being supplied by wind and solar energy which operate the measuring equipment, also in the long periods when the station is unmanned.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><!-- close content main div --><\/div><\/div><div id='av_section_1'  class='avia-section
