Nansen Legacy
The Nansen Legacy is a Norwegian Arctic research project which is providing integrated knowledge for the sustainable management of the environment and marine resources in the Barents Sea and the adjoining Arctic Ocean.
One of the main objectives of the project is to examine the physical factors governing the climate system in the Barents Sea. The goals of our palaeoclimate group are to:
- characterize the natural spectrum and variability of the sea ice cover and through the flow of Atlantic water masses over the past approx. 12,000 years
- assess key factors behind the long-term natural variability of the environment in the Barents Sea and the adjoining Arctic Ocean
